After taking the test click here to proceed to the next lesson

OUTLINE

Righteousness
  • We have learned that sound words it means healthy teaching Or healthy doctrine
  • healthy teaching will shape our belief
  • when our belief shape by a healthy teachings it will lead to right believing in the eyes of God
  • Right believing will lead to right living
  • we need to holdfast the pattern of sounds words.
  • the first Pattern of sound words that we will hold fast

  • The Gift righteousness

  • The first specific manifestation of God's grace in the life of believers of Jesus is the gift of righteousness.
  • Matthew 6:33
  • “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness” (KJV)
  • Take note po,
  • Any other righteousness we might endeavor to seek cannot meet God's standard of righteousness.

  • Isaiah 64:6
  • But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away.

  • Romans 3:23, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

  • God is telling us, that we can do all the ways that people think to be righteous in the eyes of God But still this is like a filthy rags in the sight of God

  • God tells us that what we need to seek is God's righteousness.

  • The only righteousness that will admit us into heaven is the righteousness of God, which comes only by faith in Jesus Christ.
  • It is received by faith as a gift.

  • God is saying to us that God's righteousness is received by faith as a gift, and not as a merit or a reward.

  • Romans 3:22 NIV
  • This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile
  • this is one of the words or teachings that Paul says, that we should hold fast.

  • There are Two kinds of righteousness in the bible

  • Romans 3:21‭-‬22 NIV
  • But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile,

  • 1. Righteousness by the law:
  • righteousness by the law means a person will be righteous before God when he fulfill all God's law.

  • Romans 2:13NIV, For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous.

  • God's people in old testament rely on obeying the law, to make them righteous before God

  • They love God's law

  • I will always obey your law, for ever and ever.
  • Psalms 119:44 NIV

  • Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long. Psalms 119:97 NIV
  • The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. Psalms 19:7 NIV

  • Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law. Psalms 119:18 NIV

  • Great peace have those who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble. Psalms 119:165 NIV

  • If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction. Psalms 119:92 NIV

  • Joshua 1:8, This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

  • People on the old testament love God's law
  • And this is the basis of their blessings from God

  • 1 Kings 2:1‭-‬3 NIV, When the time drew near for David to die, he gave a charge to Solomon his son. “I am about to go the way of all the earth,” he said. “So be strong, act like a man, and observe what the Lord your God requires: Walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses. Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go.

  • God's people in the old testament rely on the law.
  • Obey the law of God and you will have the favor and righteousness of God

The Problem with the Law
  • God's people think that the law will save them and sanctify them before God But instead it brings death to them

  • The letter kills

  • I was once alive apart from the Law; but when the commandment came, sin became alive and I died; and this commandment, which was to result in life, proved to result in death for me; for sin, taking an opportunity through the commandment, deceived me and through it killed me. Romans 7:9‭-‬11 NASB1995

  • The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 1 Corinthians 15:56 NIV

  • Is the law bad?
  • The law is holy and good

  • So then, the Law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good. Romans 7:12 NASB1995

  • There is no problem with the law, the problem is us.

  • For we know that the Law is spiritual, but I am of flesh, sold into bondage to sin. Romans 7:14 NASB1995

  • God's law is incompatible with man Because God's law is spiritual and Holy,
  • and we Humans Are spiritually dead and sinful because of sin.

  • Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned--Romans 5:12 NASB1995

  • And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, Ephesians 2:1 NASB1995

  • when man sinned,
  • Man was disconnected to God
  • man was disconnected to the divine life,

  • for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
  • Romans 3:23 NASB1995

  • What is God's solution to make man to become righteous in His sight.

    2. God's righteousness.
  • Romans 3:21‭-‬22 NIV
  • But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile,

  • When people work, their wages are not a gift, but something they have earned. But people are counted as righteous, not because of their work, but because of their faith in God who forgives sinners.
  • Romans 4:4‭-‬5 NLT

  • Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Romans 5:1‭-‬2 NIV

  • Romans.5:17. ‘...those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ’

  • If we Receive this two things the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness, we will reign in life

Abraham the father of our faith:
  • in Romans 4:16 says, that those who are of the faith of Abraham who is called ‘the father of us all’

  • Galatians 3:16. ‘Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as of many, but as of one, “And to your Seed,” who is Christ’

  • Galatians 3:8. ‘And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, “In you all the nations shall be blessed”’

  • Old testament perspective: God told Abraham he would give him a son and His name is Jesus
  • New testament perspective: God has told us he has given us a son and his name is Jesus

  • Old testament perspective: Abraham looked forward to the cross
  • New Testament Perspective: we looked back to the cross

  • Old testament perspective: Abraham look forward for Jesus and believed in Jesus
  • New testament perspective: we looked back to Jesus and believe in Jesus

  • John.8:56, ‘Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad’
  • Abraham saw Jesus and was glad
  • It means Abraham heard the gospel.
  • God preached the Gospel to Abraham

  • the only one way to be saved in the Old Testament and in the New Testament is through believing in Jesus

  • Old Testament says Jesus is coming soon, look forward
  • New testament says Jesus has come, look back

  • Romans.4:3, ‘Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness’).

  • To become righteous in God sight is by believing in the Lord Jesus Christ

  • We can see that Abraham believed the same gospel we heard and believed.
  • By believing the good news about Jesus, Abraham was made righteous. So are we!

  • Romans 3:22, We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.

  • best way we can explain the how God made us righteous, is in terms of what we call the great exchange

  • The Great Exchange:

  • 2 Corinthians 5:21 ‘For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him’).
  • That's what we call the great exchange

  • Jesus became what we were, that is sin, So that we could become what He is, that is righteous in the sight of God.

  • This great exchange took place, we became what Jesus is (Righteous)
  • Jesus became what we were (sin)

  • Two things that happened at the great exchange at the cross

  • A) God Imputes Our Sins To Jesus

  • that's what God did at the cross, God took all of your sin, all of my sin, every sin we have ever committed, Every sin we will commit, all of it was taken and laid upon Jesus and he died in our place.

  • Romans 4:7-8, “Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, And whose sins are covered; Blessed is the man to whom the Lord shall not impute sin.”

  • Romans 4:8, “ Blessed is the man to whom the Lord shall not impute sin.”

  • How can God justifies the ungodly?
  • Our sin was imputed to Christ and He bore its full judgment.

  • 2 Corinthians 5:21, in him there was no sin, he did no sin, he knew no sin, in him there was no sin

  • Matthew 3:14- 15 says, 14 But John prohibited Him, saying, “I need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?” 15 But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now, for it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he permitted Him.

  • (John.12:31-32). ‘Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out.

  • john 1:29, The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

  • Jesus made one sacrifice once for all and by that 1 sacrifice, we are perfected forever. all our sins have been forgiven and God declares us to be righteous

  • Hebrews 10:14, For by that one offering he forever made perfect those who are being made holy.

  • B) God Imputes The Righteousness Of Christ To Us
  • now, this term righteousness is a very important term
  • we need to understand what it means what David quotes in romans 4:6

  • Romans 4:6, just as David also describes the blessedness of the man to whom God imputes righteousness apart from works:

  • Romans 10:3), ‘For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God’ Many make the same mistake.

  • Romans 5:19. ‘...as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous’,

  • We do not behave unto righteousness; we believe unto righteousness.

  • Are you Innocent or Are you righteous?
  • The foundation of blessing is a right relationship with God.

  • There is a difference between innocence and righteousness:
  • When an innocent person sins, their sin is imputed to them.
  • When a righteous person sins, their sin has been imputed to Christ.

  • Romans 4:8, ‘Blessed is the man to whom the LORD shall not impute sin’
  • we're blessed because God does not impute our sin to us
  • 2 Corinthians 5:19 ‘...God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them...’
  •
  • when you are in Christ you are righteous, God does not impute your sin to you

  • Hebrews 8:12, ‘For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more’
'Dedicated to share God's unconditional love and Grace to all men everywhere at any cost'
